File Extension AVIAVI stands for Audio Video Interleave. It is a multimedia format which was introduced by Microsoft in 1992. Since that time it became a very widespread format and lots of media content is stored using AVI format. Usually AVI file stores both audio and video content in a compressed form using RIFF (Resource Interchange File Format). Compression could be done by multiple different codec that is why even if you have AVI compatible media player there is a chance that you don’t have necessary codecs installed to play the content. You should be able to open most of AVI files using Windows Media Player installed by default on almost any Windows PC. Following version of Windows Media player support AVI format:
If you don’t have Media Player on your PC you can try VLC player, Real Player or Apple QuickTime. If all of the applications above are not able to open your AVI file there is a chance that it is corrupted. Similar file extensions
